James Gower, Managing Director of Stable Events has been speaking to us about his role at Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials.
What innovation is Stable Events bringing to BPIHT this year?
Stable Events is committed to introducing innovative ideas to enhance the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials experience. This year, we are hoping to implement a state-of-the-art tracking system that utilises advanced technology to provide real-time updates on rider positions, course progress, and live scores. Spectators and participants can access this information through a dedicated mobile app, allowing them to stay engaged and informed throughout the event. We believe this innovation will greatly enhance the overall experience for everyone involved.
Where do you get the inspiration to constantly come up with new ideas?
My inspiration comes from various sources. Firstly, I closely follow trends and developments within the equestrian and event management industries. I attend conferences, engage with experts, and stay updated on the latest technological advancements. Additionally, I am surrounded by avid equestrian enthusiasts in my team, so I draw inspiration from their own experiences as riders and spectators. Finally, I encourage feedback and suggestions from our participants, sponsors, and attendees. Their input helps us understand their needs and desires, allowing us to continually innovate and improve our events.
The Eventer Challenge is back – why is this important to you?
The Eventer Challenge holds great significance for me and the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials. This particular event combines elements of both showjumping and cross-country, creating a unique and thrilling competition for grassroot level riders. It challenges riders to demonstrate their versatility, skill, and trust in their horses. The Eventer Challenge, presented by Spillers showcases the incredible partnership between horse and rider, highlighting their ability to tackle a diverse range of obstacles. It is important to us because it adds an extra layer of excitement and access to a wider group of participants as well as variety to the overall event, attracting both participants and spectators who appreciate this dynamic discipline.
What are you most passionate about when it comes to events?
When it comes to events, I am most passionate about creating memorable experiences for our participants and spectators. I strive to ensure that every detail, from the course design to the entertainment and amenities, contributes to an immersive and enjoyable experience. Witnessing the joy and excitement on the faces of attendees, the camaraderie among participants, and the sense of achievement when riders successfully navigate the challenging courses is incredibly rewarding. I am passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive environment that celebrates the equestrian sport and leaves a lasting impact on all those involved and those who come to watch.
How are you encouraging participation in equestrian events?
Encouraging participation in equestrian events is one of our top priorities. To achieve this, we have established a strong partnership with the British Horse Society. Together, we collaborate on various initiatives aimed at promoting equestrian sports and engaging a wider audience. This year there are special rates for members including free entry on Thursday and Friday, discounted access over the weekend and ‘refer a friend’ discounts. Together we will organise educational workshops, training sessions, and promotional campaigns in partnership with the BHS over the coming years. These initiatives not only enhance the skills and knowledge of existing riders but also introduce newcomers to the world of equestrianism. By working closely with the BHS, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages more people to participate in and enjoy equestrian events.
