At the Agria Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, we are deeply committed to the highest standards of horse welfare. We adhere to the FEI Code of Conduct and prioritise the well-being of our equine athletes above all competitive or commercial interests.

Our dedication to horse welfare is reflected in our comprehensive approach to event management. We ensure that all horses are provided with clean, high-quality forage, feed, and water, and that their stabling and training environments meet the highest standards. Our courses are meticulously designed and maintained to ensure safety and minimize injury risks, while our transportation protocols are designed to protect horses throughout their journey.

We enforce strict guidelines to ensure that only fit horses and competent athletes participate in our events. Any concerns about a horse’s health are addressed promptly with veterinary expertise, and we strictly prohibit doping or any actions that may harm the horse.

Our commitment extends to humane treatment and retirement of horses. We provide immediate veterinary care if needed and make every effort to treat retired horses with respect and care. We continuously review and improve our practices to align with the latest research and advancements in equine welfare.

At Blenheim, our focus is on creating a safe, supportive environment that upholds the highest standards of horse welfare, ensuring that the well-being of every horse is our foremost priority.

To ensure horse welfare remains a top priority during the Agria FEI European Eventing Championship, we have partnered with HorseLight to provide specialist lighting in the Championship barns. HorseLight delivers a cost-effective, welfare-driven stable lighting solution for performance, leisure, and breeding horses, creating a more natural and biologically appropriate indoor environment.

This groundbreaking blue light therapy system automatically replicates natural daylight and seasonal cycles, supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of horses while stabled. Horses are highly sensitive to light, with biological rhythms – including sleep, coat growth, reproduction, and metabolism – governed by photoperiods. In stabled settings, especially during autumn, winter, or in regions with limited daylight, traditional lighting can disrupt these cycles, leading to stress, poor coat condition, reduced performance, weakened immunity, and compromised breeding.

HorseLight uses scientifically calibrated blue and bright white light spectrums to mimic sunlight, regulating melatonin production and aligning light exposure with the horse’s circadian rhythm. This promotes hormonal balance, healthy sleep patterns, and natural coat shedding. For breeding programmes, HorseLight also enhances reproductive efficiency by stimulating ovulation cycles – ensuring a healthier, more balanced environment for every horse in our care.
